OMA Med Student Member to Compete in Ironman World Championships
John Heineman, a second year medical student and president of the OHSU School of Medicine Class of 2012, will compete in the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii on October 10. He qualified for the event, which involves a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run, by winning the 18-24 year old age group in Ironman Canada.
During his undergraduate education in Iowa, Heineman raised $19,000 for the Iowa City Free Medical Clinic by swimming nineteen miles across the English Channel, and he is dedicating his Ironman World Championship race to the Southwest Community Health Clinic in Portland. He is requesting support for the clinic in the form of financial contributions or volunteer services.
