According to the CDC, tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death and disease in the United States, increasing the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and many other chronic diseases. The majority of patients that use tobacco want to quit, but without evidence-based treatment and support many quitting attempts fail. Healthcare providers have a unique opportunity to help connect patients to the resources they need to be successful. According to the CDC, E-cigarettes are sometimes called "e-cigs," "vapes," "e-hookahs," "vape pens," and "electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS)." Some e-cigarettes look like regular cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Some look like USB flash drives, pens, and other everyday items.
