Oregon Medical Education Foundation (OMEF)
The Oregon Medical Education Foundation (OMEF) was formed by OMA in 1961. It is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to the advancement of medical science through education; it also serves as a repository for special and memorial gifts. It is governed by a 15-member board of directors, nominated for staggered three-year terms by the OMA Board of Trustees.
I. MISSION STATEMENT (Proposed revision of policy adopted April 26, 1987)
The purpose of the Oregon Medical Education Foundation Continuing Medical Education Endowment Fund is to foster and support the availability of continuing medical education for Oregon physicians with particular emphasis on innovative educational programming. Funds for the corpus of endowment were derived from two $25,000 contributions from the Oregon Medical Association and from other contributions received and expected to be received from members of the Oregon Medical Association and from other sources.
II. FISCAL POLICY
It is the intent of the Oregon Medical Association and the policy of the Foundation that the fund be maintained in perpetuity. Therefore, grants from the fund shall be limited to aggregate earnings from the corpus.
III. GRANT PROPOSAL REVIEW PROCEDURE
Grant requests shall be reviewed by the Oregon Medical Association Executive Committee for appropriateness of source, purpose and funding level. The OMA shall make recommendations to the Foundation Board of Directors for final determination.
IV. 2006 GRANTS AWARDED
$250,000 to the OMA dedicated to the purchase, replacement and updating of the technical equipment in the conference center to be located in the new OMA building
$25,000 matching grant to the OHSU Department of Family Medicine to support the development of a business plan to develop a program that will offer physicians who have been clinically inactive, training that will allow them to become active clinicians again.
$10,000 to the History of Medicine in Oregon project
$3,000 to the OMA Alliance for the 2006 Teen Health Workshop
$2,000 to the OMA Alliance to allow statewide expansion of the children’s internet safety program Faux Paw.
Three $1,000 college scholarships to 3 students from the Linn Benton County Medical Society fund.

Linn-Benton County Scholarship
The Oregon Medical Education Foundation invites Linn and Benton County high school seniors seeking a career in medicine or nursing and graduates currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning whose undergraduate or graduate pursuit is a degree in medicine or nursing to apply for the Linn-Benton County Scholarship. The scholarship was developed from an endowment from the Linn and Benton County Medical Societies.
