Member participation on OMA committees is an important and valuable role. Whatever your availability and interest, there is a committee that would benefit from your assistance. Committee Descriptions
ACCESS/WORKFORCE COMMITTEE Meets: Quarterly / Staff Contact: Joy Conklin This committee is charged as follows: 1) serve as a clearinghouse for information about workforce and patient access issues in Oregon; 2) work with researchers in workforce and patient access issues; 3) collect information about local responses to workforce issues and make suggestions for programs that might be extended to other communities plus identify barriers that the OMA may help to overcome; 4) review state and federal legislation for its impact on workforce; and 5) find and document stories about the lack of workforce challenges.
BYLAWS COMMITTEE Meets: As needed / Staff Contact: Gwen Dayton This committee is responsible for developing appropriate language to effect changes in the bylaws as directed by the House of Delegates and other policy making bodies of the Association.
COMMUNITY HEALTH COMMITTEE Meets: Quarterly Meetings / Staff Contact: Betsy Boyd-Flynn, Ryan James This committee’s charge is to review issues relating to the general health and safety of Oregonians and empower physicians in their unique position to lead as we strive for the following: * to increase awareness of public health issues in Oregon * to provide education and disseminate health information to practitioners and to the public * to strengthen public health capacities and services * to improve health and prevention of disease and disability.
FINANCE & AUDIT COMMITTEE Meets: Quarterly / Staff Contact: Jo Bryson, Rita Goodmund This committee is charged to review the financial affairs of the OMA and formulate recommendations to the OMA Executive Committee and Board of Trustees to include but not be limited to: proposed annual budget, budget modifications if revenue less than expected, budget for unbudgeted requests, recommendations on investment guidelines for OMA and subsidiary funds, oversight of employee pension program, oversight of annual audit including selection of auditor, oversight of the financial affairs of OMA subsidiary and affiliated organizations and recommendations of budget modifications based upon OMA mission, goals and priorities.
HEALTH CARE FINANCE COMMITTEE Meets: Quarterly / Staff Contact: Joy Conklin, Reina O'Beck This committee is charged to serve as formal liaison with Oregon health insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid and other agencies in order to address mutual concerns in the areas of benefits, procedures and cost containment strategies.
INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION COMMITTEE Meets: 3-4 times per year / Staff Contact: Gwen Dayton This committee is responsible for surveys of institutions wishing to become accredited providers of CME, and confers such status upon those qualified according to ACCME.
LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE Meets: Quarterly meetings; More frequent meetings during session / Staff Contact: Bryan Boehringer, Courtni Dresser This committee is charged to review and recommend OMA policy regarding state and federal legislation; and in that regard it is authorized to make timely decisions on behalf of the association. The committee also participates in development of proposed legislation, and provides direction to lobbying staff during sessions of the legislature.
LIABILITY REFORM COMMITTEE Meet: As needed / Staff Contact: Jo Bryson This committee is responsible for developing and overseeing an overall strategy and plan of operation to resolve the malpractice issues facing Oregon physicians and their patients.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Meets: As needed / Staff Contact: Jennifer Nordgaard This committee's chargae is to provide input and recommendations around various membership issues from a physician and member perspective, and to assist the Executive Committee and staff in meeting the short and long-term strategic objectives for membership growth and services.
OFFICE ACCREDITATION COMMITTEE Meets: 2-3 times per year / Staff Contact: Gwen Dayton Is responsible for oversight of OMA’s program for accreditation of medical office facilities used for procedures where sedation or anesthesia is required and for making accreditation decisions on applications received from physicians and other health care professionals who perform procedures in such facilities.
PATIENT SAFETY COMMITTEE Meets: As needed / Staff Contact: Gwen Dayton This committee is charged to improve the health care quality process and patient outcomes of the citizens of Oregon by concentrating on the identification and prevention of patient harm arising from adverse events.
PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION COMMITTEE Meets: Monthly / Staff Contact: Gwen Dayton This committee is responsible for oversight of the OMA/CNA Physicians Protection Program, including reviews, negotiations and reports to or on behalf of the Association on matters relating to professional liability insurance in the state it also determines the eligibility of applicants for initial coverage or renewal.
LOSS PREVENTION EDUCATION COMMITTEE (PCC sub committee) Meets: 3 times per year / Staff Contact: Gwen Dayton This committee is charged with planning and providing an ongoing program to help doctors avoid situations that may lead to malpractice suits.
TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE Meets: Bi-Monthly / Staff Contact: Betsy Boyd-Flynn, Gwen Dayton This group is charged to address OMA’s electronic connectivity with members and the public and to evaluate various telecommunications and web products for enhancement of OMA communications.
WORKERS’ COMPENSATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Meets: Quarterly / Staff Contact: Courtni Dresser This committee is charged to act as liaison between OMA and the State Workers’ Compensation Department, and to deal with medical issues related to injured workers. In addition, the committee is responsible for assessing the adequacy and appropriateness of the Department’s rules covering medical assistance along with those rules and other issues relative to care rendered by one through managed care organizations.
