House of Delegates

About the House of Delegates

The House of Delegates holds the power to change or develop OMA policy that guides the organization. The annual meeting is held each year in April to review or establish those policies.

There are a number of ways a member can serve in the House of Delegates:

  • as a delegate from a county medical society;
  • as a delegate from a specialty society granted such representation;
  • as a delegate representing one of the OMA special sections; as a Trustee from one of the 20 districts or one of the special sections (young physicians, residents, medical students);
  • as a delegate or officer of the American Medical Association who resides in Oregon;
  • as an OMA officer.

Meetings of the House are open to all Association members, though the right to vote is limited to registered members of the House noted above.

While most of the business of the house is devoted to recommendations and reports from committees, any delegate or represented society may propose policy in the form of a resolution. OMA members may also submit resolutions for consideration by the House.
