Subsection: Telemedicine
Telemedicine
OMA Key Principles on Telemedicine:
- Telemedicine services should follow evidence based care standards, when available, to ensure positive and safe outcomes. OMA should encourage state and national medical societies to establish guidelines for the standard of care of services provided through telemedicine.
- Telemedicine should be provided in a coordinated model. Care should be provided in coordination with the patients’ medical home and/or their treating physician(s).
- A patient’s medical history should be available at the time of the telemedicine service. Telemedicine services should be documented in the patient’s medical record.
- Reimbursement for services provided through telemedicine should be adequate for both provider and clinical site, including all originating sites.
- Telemedicine should be provided by licensed health care professionals within the state or by providers in other states with Oregon telemedicine licensure status. Providers should practice within their scope of practice.
- Telemedicine policies should abide by laws that address privacy and security of patient medical information.
Adopted by the Board of Trustees, January 2015.
