Urgent Care Centers
OMA encourages urgent care centers and other outpatient facilities offering episodic treatment of minor injuries and illness to systematically inquire if patients have an established relationship with another physician in the community and, in cases where referral for specialty treatment or inpatient admission may be indicated, to make every effort to consult with the patient's regular physician before making the referral.
Adopted at the interim House of Delegates, 1992.
Reaffirmed at the annual House of Delegates, 2011.
