Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles
OMA urges the promotion of healthy lifestyles as a core of preventive programs offered by physicians, health departments, health plans, and voluntary health associations and encouraged physicians to take advantage of "teachable moments" that arise when counseling pregnant patients. In addition to supporting non-smoking clinics, OMA physicians are asked to become exemplars for their patients and their communities by stopping smoking themselves.
Adopted at the annual House of Delegates, 1980.
