ALERT: Potential Medicare Scam

OMA members and their patients should be aware of a potential scam targeting individuals in Oregon. Callers claim they are acting behalf of the Oregon Medical Association and attempt to solicit personal information. The callers may state that the call is related to a claim for back pain or other common health care service so it may sound familiar. The Oregon Medical Association is a nonprofit membership organization and not a health care provider or health plan and would not contact patients to solicit personal information. Verify, verify, verify. If you are unsure if a call is legitimate, hang up and contact your medical provider directly. Do not ever provide personal information over the phone without verifying the source.
