Medical Assistants

OMA encourages all Oregon physicians’ medical assistants to join the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and its state/local chapters, as OMA commends the objectives and efforts of this organization.
Adopted at the interim House of Delegates, 1972.
Reaffirmed at the annual House of Delegates, 2011.


OMA supports education of the general public that medical assistants assisting physicians in patient care are a part of the larger physician extender group, working directly under the supervision of a duly licensed physician and responsible only to that physician, performing any duties requested by that physician.

Reaffirmed at the annual House of Delegates, 2011.


OMA supports medical assistants as highly valued office personnel, and that OMA physician-employer members support the professionalism of medical assistants by encouraging continuing education and membership in their professional societies.
