Medical Testimony

The OMA endorses efforts made to define the credentials of expert witnesses in malpractice cases. Specifically, the OMA supports the use of expert witnesses who are American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board certified in a relevant specialty area in which the expert testifies, hold an active license to practice, and take into consideration prevailing standards at the time of the incident or event. Further, the OMA supports the use of expert witnesses who testify honestly, competently review all medical record information, and base their testimony on a scientific peer-accepted medical foundation.

Adopted by the Board of Trustees, October 2015.
