Fluoridation
OMA recognizes the health benefits of fluoridation and has long stood in support of fluoridating public water supplies.
Adopted at the annual House of Delegates, 1980.
Reaffirmed at the annual House of Delegates, 2011.
OMA endorses legislative efforts of the Oregon Legislature to advance community water fluoridation as a safe and effective public health strategy to prevent dental cavities and encourages statewide adoption to increase the Oregon population served by community water systems with optimally fluoridated water. OMA encourages physicians and physician assistants to become involved in the fluoridation issue by educating patients, citizens and civic leaders so that existing programs will continue and fluoridation will be undertaken where the drinking water fluoride is suboptimal.
Adopted by the Board of Trustees, January 2017.
