OMA Statement: Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization

June 24, 2022

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court released its final opinion in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, et al.

OMA is deeply concerned and will remain actively engaged as we continue to oppose any legislation that restricts access to medical care. The OMA has long-standing policy stating that the decision to perform a therapeutic abortion is best left to a patient and their clinician. The OMA policy team will digest the opinion and review pending state and federal law changes in this area, including the criminalization of clinician conduct for engaging in the legitimate practice of medicine.

In May, 2022, OMA President Mark Fischl, MD, released a full statement on the leaked draft opinion further outlining OMA's policy.
